Wilson Reading System writing practice

Multi-sensory Reading Intervention/Dyslexia Tutoring

Sessions are offered both in-person and virtually. Maureen is a certified Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner.  She has extensive professional and personal experience in treating children with dyslexia using Orton-Gillingham based approaches that are scientifically proven effective for dyslexia intervention.


Wilson Reading System


The Wilson Reading System® (WRS) is the flagship program of Wilson Language Training® and the foundation of all other Wilson programs. WRS is an intensive Tier 3 program for students in grades 2-12 and adults with word-level deficits who are not making sufficient progress through their current intervention; have been unable to learn with other teaching strategies and require multisensory language instruction; or who require more intensive structured literacy instruction due to a language-based learning disability, such as dyslexia.


As a structured literacy program based on phonological-coding research and Orton-Gillingham principles, WRS directly and systematically teaches the structure of the English language. Through the program, students learn fluent decoding and encoding skills to the level of mastery. From the beginning steps of the program, students receive instruction in:

  • Phonemic awareness
  • Decoding and word study
  • Sight word recognition
  • Spelling
  • Fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Oral expressive language development
  • Comprehension

Language Intervention

As a fully licensed speech-language pathologist, Maureen targets all aspect of language in her reading intervention.  This includes:


  • Receptive Language
    • Vocabulary: increasing the amount and type of words the child understands
    • Following Directions: teaching the child how to follow simple and complex directions
    • Comprehension: teaching the child how to recall and answer questions about information they heard or read
    • Morphology/Syntax: teaching the child the significance of word endings and word order


  • Expressive Language
    • Vocabulary: increasing the amount and types of words the child uses
    • Comprehension: teaching/increasing the child's ability to recall and answer questions about information they heard or read
    • Morphology/Syntax: teaching/increasing the child's use of word endings and word order
